Chick Chat

Angel Carr is the youngest of eight children, who grew up in a small town in the northwestern part of Texas . Growing up in the 70's in a town which was predominately white was not easy nevertheless being the youngest girl of the family. Watching and learning from her sisters not only gave her a false sense of who she was, but limited her ability to see the woman that she was predestined to be. Angel remembers not only being one of two black girls in class every year, but she also never had a teacher or anyone in authority she was able to be mentored by could be looked up to as a role model. She was never able to identify with the princesses in fairytale books, magazines or the women on television commercials except on Saturdays when Soul Train was aired. Even as a young girl, she knew there had to be more to life than what she saw.

Angel spent countless years searching for her identity and her purpose. The road was long, but worth the travel.

After graduation from high school, still undecided about life, Angel opted to go to a junior college in Fort Worth, Texas to stay near her parents and family. Taking on the roles of a wife and a mother at the age of 19 did not help the search. Encouraged by her father, Angel decided to attend barber school and received her Class “A” Barber's license in January of 1995. Still unsure about her own beauty, Angel was the “master” at making others look and feel beautiful. Angel was blessed to have a glimpse of what her calling was many years ago while watching a basketball game at a poverty-level school which she thought was condemned due to the condition. To her surprise, school was held there everyday. Just looking around the school at the girls and boys pricked her heart to one day use her gifts for such girls, but there was individual growing she had to endure of her own.

It wasn't until the alarm clock in Angel's life went off that she was blessed to see herself in the light and beauty that God had made her. She began rehearsing to herself, “I am wonderfully and fearfully made; I was made in His image; I see myself the way God sees me” because people see you the way you see yourself. Since then, she has walked into a whole new life. Angel has had the opportunity to work with some of the most prestigious freelance makeup artists around North Texas, such as artists from Chanel and Mac. Angel has been a consultant for makeup companies known around the world for more than 15 years. She has served the community offering her services on a voluntary basis because of her love and desire to bring out the natural beauty in everyone regardless of their financial status. Angel has used her gifts of makeup and hair artistry talent to minister to many in need. She works with and teaches the youth and young adult dancers at her church where she is an active member. She is a cheerleading coach for a well-known local youth association in Fort Worth, Texas where she enjoys being in a position to “give back.” Angel has a passion for young people, not limited to young girls, teens and women, but all people. Self esteem is a valuable makeup of our entity and Angel believes every person should possess a healthy one. Building self esteem is her most passion-geared project. Angel is all too familiar with unreleased childhood pain and secrets that can rob one from getting to know who they really are prematurely. She is also aware of the dangerous roots that could sprout from those unreleased thoughts that hold us captive and hide our true beauty.

Always being complimented on her own unique style of fashion and design, Angel finally implemented her ability to design/redesign clothing and create jewelry. Angel has the registered name of Curvy Cowgirl for her clothing and jewelry due to finally being proud of her curves instead of hiding them and celebrating her country-girl roots as a cowgirl. Angel believes outward beauty is overrated and that society gets so caught up with the outer appearance that the inward appearance suffers.

Living Off Of The System - Is the system fair? True enough this may be a split decision as far as opinions are concerned, but by the time we finish discussing this topic, you might have a different outlook whether you answered yes or no to the question asked. Have you ever gone through a financial hardship and couldn’t feed your children and applied for government assistance and you hear, “No.” Why do the government (Dept. of Human Services) want a single mom to sit back and do nothing just to get a small amount of assistance (food stamps, Medicaid).
